1. Introduction to GFCI Outlets

A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) outlet is a fast-acting circuit breaker designed to shut off electric power in the event of a ground fault within as little as 1/40 of a second. It is designed to protect people from severe or fatal electric shocks. 5.3. Wiring Scenarios

Scenario A: One Cable (2-3 Wires) Entering the Box

This scenario is common when the GFCI is at the end of a circuit or is the only outlet on a branch.
