The backplane has 4 power supply interfaces (2 x PATA, 2 x SATA). For standard home-level mechanical hard drives (SATA/SAS), connecting 3 power supplies is typically sufficient as their startup current is around 1A to 2.5A. For enterprise-level hard drives, which have higher startup currents, it is recommended to connect all 4 power interfaces.
